Sports Writing
NHL.com writer Bill Meltzer has called me “the top established hockey freelancer in North America.” Better still, I did not pay Bill to say this.
As a sports journalist and editor, I’ve covered the Stanley Cup finals, five Winter Olympics and 21 World Hockey Championships.
My hockey writing has appeared in more than 30 outlets, including:
- The New York Times
- The Hockey News
- ESPN
- IIHF.com
- GlobalSport Matters
- The Boston Herald
I’ve interviewed a who’s-who of hockey legends, such as Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr, and Hayley Wickenheiser. I also specialize in women’s hockey, from the pro game to the grassroots level, and serve as the editor-in-chief of WomenSport International’s newsletter.
In 2008, I was one of 56 international hockey experts – including Scotty Bowman and Ken Dryden – who were chosen to vote for the International Ice Hockey Federation’s Centennial All-Star Team. In 2021, I co-hosted the Totally Ice Hockey Show, the official World Championship podcast.
I’ve contributed to hockey books such as:
- World of Hockey: Celebrating a Century of the IIHF
- The Year of the Chicago Blackhawks
- Canadian Gold 2002: Making Hockey History
Contrary to rumor, I don’t actually live in a hockey arena, and I need Vitamin D. So I also write about outdoor sports and adventure travel.
If I’m not snowmobiling, skiing, or parasailing in Western Canada, I’m running the Reggae Marathon 10K in Jamaica, kiteboarding in Puerto Rico, or going horseback riding on Easter Island.
